Toyota/Scion FT86 FR-S

When the company Toyota comes to mind we begin to think of todays safety-standard vehicles like the Corolla or the Camry, and as economic and safe these vehicles are it sure isn’t something you’d like to drive all your friends around in. Toyota also produces Lexus and Scion which is their strategic way of producing cars for different audiences. Toyota/Scion has recently started producing the new FT-86 this year and lets just say Scion is about to be a big name in the import scene.

This new FT-86 was inspired by the classic AE86 which put its name down in not only the drift scene but the touge scene as well and this FT-86 is already on its way to the top of the list for these kind of events. D1GP/Formula Drift drivers Ken Gushi and Max Orido have already gotten their hands on the 86 and set a high bar for anyone attempting to build and tune one of these cars.

It is well known that the 2013 Scion FR-S is an iconic sports car born to be on the race track. And few tracks are as iconic and legendary as Laguna Seca and its infamous corkscrew. Ken Gushi was lucky enough to take not only a stock FR-S up to the scenic hills of Monterey, CA but also an early prototype for his GReddy Racing FR-S drift car!  -ScionRacing TV

Greddy took in the FT86 that Ken Gushi will be driving in formula drift and gave it a make over.

Ken Gushi and his team are sticking with a 4 cylinder engine for their build which may sound a little weak for the amount of beasty-ness this car will be pushing at formula drift but don’t let that fool you.

A different approach you can take to this car is Max Oridos way and just go ahead and drop a Lexus IS-F V8 engine in it and have enough torque pushing it to turn tires into molten lava. Heres a video of their shake down.

With all these crazy builds and sponsored 86s its easy to forget that this car isn’t even being mass produced yet. Scion says they plan to release the car in Spring (which it is already Spring) so that usually means early Summer.
